Beneath her web, the grass dies, and her venom leaks into its roots and her mandibles click.
Before her lie the bodies, the men with their mouths open, shock turning their eyes stark black and white. Their skin so hard and tight over their bones, their muscles liquefied. Her mandibles click, her legs twitch. Excited.
She sits in her web and dreams of the flies.

I must've frightened her when I burst into the room that night, a few hours later. But she was only sitting on my cot, wearing a mild expression of surprise.

Cotton Candy 15Mary-Alice flew down the halls, past gray and red walls and open doors similar to Malice and Jake's. Some cards stopped to stare at the pretty doll with little crystal tears in her eyes. Then…time stood still as she passed Jester. He was walking down the same hall as she, moving in the opposite direction. He turned his head slightly to look at her, frowning gently, sadly. She let out a small sob and ran even faster, unaware of where she was going, who she bumped into, or what she was running from. And as he passed her to go on, his soft hand came down on her head, and she flinched, where she sat, but he only patted her hair gently, letting the strawberry-blonde hairs trail through his fingers before moving past her into the spotlight.
